Starting costs $0 — that part is true. The account is free, your first 250 listings every month carry no insertion fee, and eBay takes its fee only when your item sells. But 'starting' and 'running' are different: for your first orders you need a small rolling amount to pay the supplier, because eBay holds a new seller's payout for some days.
Understand the difference vs other platforms

At the start, don't throw money at expensive tools or 'guaranteed' schemes. Get your first sale with the free method first — then you will know yourself where spending is actually worth it.
