How to Create an eBay Seller Account
Creating the account takes 15 minutes — but an account created the wrong way gets shut in the first week. This page shows the right way.
Go to eBay.com → Register with your real details → open 'Sell' and complete seller registration → connect Payoneer for payouts. Three rules that decide everything: use your own correct information (name, address, phone), keep one account (don't link yourself to a second one), and don't rush to sell hard on day one.
Personal or business account — which one?
If you are learning and working alone, start personal. Once you have a business name or an LLC/company, a business account is the right home. Never create the account in someone else's name — verification later will ask for that person's documents, and payouts/tax will belong to them too.
What documents and details do you need?
- Your correct legal name and address (as on your ID)
- Email and mobile number (an OTP will come)
- A bank / Payoneer account for payouts
- From India: PAN card. GST is needed when you sell within India or at larger scale — for cross-border selling to the US it is generally not required to start, but confirm your own situation with a CA once
Your first 7 days after creating the account
- Set your profile photo and store name properly
- Create business policies: Payment, Shipping (realistic handling time), Returns
- List only 1-2 items first — something of your own or one test product
- Open the account daily and reply to any eBay message
This 'slow start' is exactly what gives an account a long life.
(1) Someone else's details, (2) a VPN to appear in another country, (3) making a fresh account the day one gets banned — eBay detects the link and bans that too. Make ONE account and protect it.

Yes — creating the account is free, and your first 250 listings each month have no insertion fee. eBay charges you when an item sells (the final value fee).
